Miles Loyd, a retired engineer from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, was presented the Airborne Wind Energy Consortium 2010 Innovator of the Year Award by consortium Executive Director Roger Cutler at the Airborne Wind Energy Conference 2010 on September 28 at Stanford University.
Over 30 years ago, Loyd published “Crosswind Kite Power” perhaps the first analytical paper proposing to use kites to harness high altitude winds. Cutler said that Loyd’s methodology remains a foundation of ongoing industry research and development. Loyd’s paper was referenced by many leading industry developers at the Conference.
Loyd also presented an overview of his research to a very appreciative conference audience.
